![]() Presentation to Venture CapitalistsBlake: Consider two scenarios. CJ Parker is brought into the hospital unconscious, escorted by a friend. No one is able to offer any information her state, and the hospital requires approximately five minutes to test vitals, including blood gas levels and heart rate. In this time, her condition will worsen and possibly result in paralysis or death. In the alternative, the unconscious CJ is wearing a VitalWatch LifeBand, the world's first Personal Healthcare Assistant (PHA). She is brought into the hospital, her watch is scanned, her condition discovered, and her life saved - in less than 10 seconds. {[pause] slide: What it is} Ben: The VitalWatch LifeBand is a revolutionary personal assistant - a storage device that stores the wearer's vitals, allergies, and emergency contact. The innovative Passive Monitoring System (PMOS) records essential patient information such as blood-gas levels which helps a doctor test for asthma, cardiovascular failure, emphysema, and carbon monoxide poisoning. Using the VitalScan Reader, a doctor's nurse can download a host of relevant medical information immediately from the LifeBand watch, eliminating the need for time consuming examinations. {Slide: why you need one} We break down the features of the LifeBand into two groups - lifesavers and timesavers. The VitalWatch product family consists of the LifeBand watch and the VitalScan Reader. The LifeBand's features include a spectrophotometric sensor that measures blood gas levels, as well as EKG tests. Despite its impressive abilities, the LifeBand is noninvasive. All tests are administered through the Passive Monitoring System (PMOS) which does not bother or interfere with the wearer's everyday life. {[pause] slide: Why You want one} Imagine never filling out another HMO form again. You enter a hospital as a new patient, your watch is scanned, and you are seen by a doctor within seconds. The LifeBand's 4 megabyte storage space is ample room to keep all of your HMO data, eliminating the need to fill out seemingly endless forms every time you go to a doctor. At the inexpensive price of $99.95, the LifeBand's amazing features can be made available to the masses. [Slide: Our Market] Clint: Our initial target market are the ill and the elderly. In our first year, we are chiefly concerned with building name recognition and brand loyalty. We aim to sell through doctors, hospitals, nursing homes, and health insurance providers, as well as direct-to-consumer shipping. Our marketing department has built a $100,000 advertising campaign to build interest and knowledge of product, intended for publishing in medical journals and newspapers, as well as magazines for the elderly. [Slide: Turning a Profit] The estimated cost of our first year is $9 million. This cost includes prototyping, FCC testing, and producing our initial run of 100,000 LifeBands and 10,000 VitalScan Readers. As seen in our financial estimates, the sale of 50,000 watches and 6,000 readers will break even. The estimated test market for this product is well over 10,000,000 people among the sick and elderly alone. If we are successful in our entry into the healthcare market, the potential market of consumers in North America alone is well over 100,000,000 million people. At a manufacturing cost of $30 and over a 333% return rate on each $99 watch sold, VitalWatch products have the potential to pump huge profits in an ever-expanding market. [slide: Saving Money, Saving Time, Saving Lives] Blake: $17 billion of medical errors in 1999 was preventable. The number one cause of this was doctors not being able to read each other's handwriting. With LifeBand's digital storage system, the problem of illegible medical documents can become a thing of the past. VitalWatch will not only turn a profit, but also save hospitals a potential $17 billion dollars. A LifeBand wearer can enter a hospital, bypass the HMO forms, and provide his doctor with information that saves time and paperwork. In emergency situations, the LifeBand is the tool that offers doctors fingertip-ready vitals to provide immediate treatment. This inexpensive device seeks to achieve VitalWatch's goal, "Saving Time, Saving lives." And on behalf of VitalWatch, I ask you: Is this a life worth saving?
