ABC News goes for the hard issues

ABC News has an unintentionally hilarious piece running right now about the growing cult popularity of Yo Gabba Gabba! The headline and subhead: “Nickelodeon Cartoon Draws Unusual Fans: Some College Kids Say They Get High Before Watching “Yo Gabba Gabba!” Even better is the SEO-friendly title tag on the article: ABC News: Nickelodeon Show for Kids or Stoners?

Unfortunately the article contains no mention of The Soup, Joel McHale, or Nathaniel who likes to dance.

Facebook images now on blog

superawesome

I added a set of random images in the right sidebar. Because Facebook doesn’t offer users the ability to publish openly accessible RSS feeds of photos (booooo!), I had to do a bit of a hack job to make this work. All images were downloaded from my profile using FaceDown. I could have just re-uploaded them to WordPress right then using the new image uploader, but to be more efficient (I was importing around 150 photos), I uploaded a zip file to my server, unzipped the file in Putty, then brought the images into the Media Library using a handy WP importer plugin called Add from Server. The images themselves are then displayed with the sidebar widget in NextGen Gallery. And yes, I’m aware that this entire post was only interesting to about 7 people in the world, none of whom read this blog.

Twit softly and carry a big stick

Coincidentally timed perfectly with this fascinating piece on Friendfeed in today’s NYT, I’ve removed the Twitter Updates from my daily blog posts. As I somewhat expected would eventually happen, my spotty update schedule quickly turned this blog from a once open chronicling of my ridiculous ideas, unorthodox approaches and absurd philosophies, into a full-on Twitter Dump. My twits are still visible on the sidebar, as well as on Facebook, Tumblr, and pretty much anywhere else you try to find me online, but for now we’re back to normal blog posts for awhile.

In other news, I either just saw Amanda Overmyer or a really tiny version of Amanda Overmyer on the 6 train.

My sister is a rockstar

Last night my parents and I hosted a small group of Mal’s friends at 1107 for her 23rd birthday. This is the invitation that I wrote to the guests:

Hey All You Upper East Siders! Gossip Girl here with a pop quiz: Which private school teacher’s bday soiree at her former Fifth Avenue residence will have Manhattan’s most exclusive guestlist celebrating until the sun comes up? Gossip Girl spots a Blair in her name, but a Waldorf this lifelong Lion is definitely not.

Only the fortunate few can score invites to this darling diva’s bday bash. Wanna get past the velvet lobby? Careful B. Hell hath no fury like a private school teacher scorned.

Lucky for you, this host with the most is asking you to be her special guests. But throw on your fanciest garments, boys and girls, because this swank gala is strictly denim-free.

Sometimes you need to step outside, clear your head, and remind yourself of who you are. And where you want to be. So who is this furtive femme demanding your presence? That’s for you to decide.

And who am I? That’s one secret I’ll never tell.

You know you love me.

xoxo,

They say a picture’s worth a thousand words, so in typical Stuchin family style, thousands of words were spoken and no pictures were taken. My parents and I each gave toasts celebrating my sister’s spirit and character. It was a wonderful night and it was a pleasure to spend it with such a warm group of people. Mal, you may have jokingly said “you know you love me,” but of course we do. And it was a joy to celebrate 23 years of Mallory with others who feel the same way. Happy bday, sis.
